John Whalen is the founder of The Law Office of John Whalen, PLLC, serving San Antonio and surrounding communities. Born and raised in San Antonio, John is deeply connected to the city and committed to advocating for his clients with skill and integrity.

 

John earned his undergraduate degree from The University of Texas at San Antonio, where he was a student athlete and member of the UTSA baseball team. He went on to receive his Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s University School of Law.

John began his criminal law career interning with Bexar County District Attorney's Office, where he gained firsthand experience in felony prosecution, case preparation, and courtroom procedure. John later served as a judicial intern for the 144th Judicial District Court, working under the Honorable Lorena Rummel. There, John observed criminal proceedings from the bench's perspective and developed a deep understanding of how judges evaluate evidence, credibility, and legal arguments.

These formative experiences gave John insight into both sides of the courtroom and continue to inform his approach to criminal defense today. 

 

During law school, John clerked for multiple highly rated firms, gaining extensive hands on experience in criminal law, handling cases ranging from class B misdemeanors to first degree felonies. After graduating, he was an associate attorney at a large personal injury law firm in Austin Texas, where he developed specialized experience representing injured clients in automobile accident and premise liability cases.

 

John has worked hundreds of criminal cases, including intoxication offenses, violent offenses, sexual assaults, drug crimes, fraud crimes, post-conviction writs of habeas corpus, and other criminal appellate matters.

 

John founded his firm to provide personalized, responsive, and results driven representation, taking pride in giving each case the attention it deserves.
